چکیده

Techniques frequently encountered in software agents, such as mobility, adaptation, cloning, splitting and merging put the identity of the participating agents in question. This in its turn, leads to problems concerning the responsibilities and rights of agents. Problems of personal identity are explored in the philosophical and psychological literature. This paper explores the applicability of this research for the case of software agents. We show how the concepts of somatic and psychological identity can lead to the development of a rule set for naming conventions in agent societies.
